Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi
According to mythological belief, Ganesha is considered the first deity. This is the reason why Lord Ganesha is always worshiped before we start any auspicious or new work. It is believed that Lord Ganesha was reborn on Ganesh Chaturthi. Since then it is celebrated as Ganesh Utsav. Well known Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak called this festival an important vehicle for eradicating social differences.
Ganesh Utsav 2023
This 10-day festival will begin with Ganesh Chaturthi. In this, the idols of Lord Ganapati i.e. Bappa are decorated and puja aarti is organized in homes, pandals and temples.
During Ganesh Utsav, Bappa is worshiped for 10 full days.Let us find out how the worship is carried out in these 10-days.
Day 1
Welcoming Lord Ganesha and installing of his idol (Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 Sthapana)
Ganesh Chaturthi begins with the installation and worship of the idol of Lord Ganesha in homes or public pandals. The market is decorated with clay idols of different sizes. On this day Lord Ganesha is established in homes and it can be said that on this day Lord Ganesha is welcomed and he is given a place in the house.
Day 2
Main day of the festival (Ganesh Chaturthi 2023)
The second day is celebrated as "Chaturthi". This is an important day of Ganesh Utsav.
Day 3
Special prayer and aarti of Lord Ganesha (Ganesh Aarti)
On the third day, devotees offer special prayers to Lord Ganesha and there is a tradition of performing rituals along with Aarti.
Day 4
Aarti- Puja and distribution of Prasad (Ganesh Puja)
On the fourth day, special prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha. Along with this, Bappa's aarti and bhajan are organised. After these sweetssweets and prasad are distributed among devotees.
Day 5
Worship of Lord Ganesha with Shodopchar Puja.
On the fifth day, performing "Shodashopachar Puja" and offering of special prayers to Lord Ganesha is the main event which is considered very important.
Day 6
Puja-Aarti (Ganesh Ji Shashthi)
The sixth day is known as "Shashthi" and is celebrated with special prayers and aarti in the homes of individuals. Donation etc. is also given special importance on this day.
Day 7
Saptapadi Offering
On the seventh day, devotees perform "Saptapadi" ritual to Lord Ganesha. On this day a special worship of Lord Ganesha is carried out.
Day 8
Ashtami
The eighth day is known as "Ashtami" and on this day special prayers, aarti and offerings of sweets to Lord Ganesha along with his favorite modaks and other things are carried out.
Day 9
Worship of Nine Plants (Navpatrika Puja)
On the ninth day, “Navapatrika Puja” is performed.
Day 10
Ganesh Visarjan (Ganesh Visarjan 2023)
On the tenth and last of Ganesh Utsav, the idol of Lord Ganesha is immersed. On this day devotees bid farewell to Bappa. Devotees bid farewell to Bappa by singing aartis, bhajan and songs. On this day, virtuous deeds like charity etc. are carried out by the devotees.
