Homi Jehangir Bhabha was well known as the "Father of the Indian nuclear program". Homi Bhabha was also one of the founding directors at the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) which is now named the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in his honor.

Homi Jehangir was born on 30 October in the year 1909. Homi Jehangir was a professional Indian nuclear physicist, a founding director, and also a professor of physics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).

Bhabha did his schooling at Bombay’s Cathedral and John Connon School and went onto study at the Elphinstone College at the age of 15, after passing his Senior Cambridge Examination with Honours. He went onto join the Royal Institute of Science in 1927 before joining Caius College of Cambridge University.

Bhabha was born to Jehangir Horsmusji Bhabha and Meheren in a wealthy family. Homi Jehangir Bhabha died when the Air India Flight 101 crashed near Mont Blanc on January 24th in the year 1966. This happened only a year after he had spoken on the All India Radio, talking about how he would make India a nuclear power if the government allowed him to do so. 

However, he was never granted permission by Nehru who refused to support him across his career with the CIA said to be behind his death with the US getting jittery over Bhabha's capabilities. No thorough investigation has been carried out till date with his death covered up by being swept under the mat as a misunderstanding between the aircraft pilot and the Geneva Airport over the mountain position.

His wife was Jacqueline Strimpel Bhabha (born 1951), a British academic and an attorney.

Homi began his nuclear physics professional career in Great Britain. Homi Bhabha returned back to India for his annual holidays before the start of World War 2 in September in the year 1939. The War prompted Homi Jehangir to remain in the nation India and he accepted the post of reader in physics in the Indian Institute of Science which was based in Bengaluru, headed by the Nobel laureate C.V. Raman.

At the time, Homi Jehangir Bhabha played a vital role in convincing the party of Congress senior leaders. Most notably he convinced the famous Jawaharlal Nehru who was later served as India's first Prime Minister and started the ambitious nuclear program. Homi's major contribution included working on Compton scattering, R-process, and further in the advancement of the nuclear in physics.

Homi Bhabha was honored with the Adams Prize in the year 1942 and also with the Padma Bhushan in the year 1954. Homi was also nominated for taking the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1951 and back to back years 1953 to 1956.

Homi Jehangir Bhaba is estimated to have a net worth around INR 25-50 lakh. His bungalow was auctioned recently for INR 372 crore.
