Tenzin Sangnyi is Miss Tibet 2016

DHARAMSALA: Tenzin Sangnyi was crowned the Miss Tibet 2016 at the pageant’s final round held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in McLeodganj on Sunday.

Tenzin Sangnyi was crowned the Miss Tibet 2016 at the pageant’s final round held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in McLeodganj on Sunday.

The beauty contest culminated with the customary schedule of introduction round, gown round, the traditional costume round and an interview.

Tenzin Sangnyi (21), a resident of Manali, was crowned by last year’s winner Pema Choedon. She also received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

Tenzin Dawa from the New York, USA, was named the first runner-up and Tenzing Dickey the second runner-up. They were given a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively.

As many as four contestants were in the fray this year. Expressing delight over her winning the title, Sangnyi, a nurse by profession, said she was happy and overwhelmed on achieving the feat.

“This platform gives me a voice and now I can inspire people of all ages and walks of life to strive for their better selves and reach for goals,” Sangnyi said.

“I will be able to contribute to the Tibetan struggle on the global platforms by being a cultural ambassador and let the world know that Tibetans are fighting for their rights and will continue to fight,” she added.

She also vowed to sensitise and spread awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Meanwhile, organizer of the event, Lobsang Wangyal said he was happy and satisfied on the successful 14th edition of Miss Tibet.
