The advantages of Twinkle Khanna’s onion hair mask

Onions are known to be an antiseptic powerhouse, and also have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. This means that applying onion juice to the strands and scalp could help alleviate disorders like dandruff, alopecia or other infections. It has also been found to delay premature greying of hair. Most importantly, this sulphur-rich ingredient can nourish your hair follicles, increase blood circulation and facilitate keratin formation to promote hair growth.

Bollywood celebrities who got candid about using onions in their haircare routines

Given its myriad benefits, it is no wonder then that many other celebrities have waxed eloquent about the goodness of onion juice to achieve their mane goals. Sara Ali Khan, like Twinkle Khanna, uses onion juice as a quick hair salve. Amid the extended lockdown, actor Tamannah Bhatia revealed that she mixes an onion juice and coconut oil blend on her scalp to prevent hair fall.

Add Twinkle Khanna’s go-to hair mask in your own DIY recipes

If you’d want to harness the advantages of onion in its raw form to promote hair growth like Twinkle Khanna, take two-three large onions and remove the papery peel. After chopping this roughly into two-four chunks, give it a whizz in a blender. Take the onion paste, and place it in a muslin cloth to squeeze all the juice out. To revive hair lustre, consider a combination of honey and onion juice. Simply mix two tablespoons of onion juice with one tablespoon of honey and stir it until it emulsifies. Soak a cotton pad in this blend before applying on the scalp. Let it sit for 30 minutes before your shampoo and conditioner regime. If premature greying is what you’d like to tackle, take 15 to 20 fresh curry leaves and two tablespoons of onion juice and blend into a paste. Apply the pack on your scalp for an hour, and then you can wash it off with a mild shampoo and lukewarm or cold water.
