Kanishka's launched itself in the fashion circuit of Kolkata in 1970. Since then, the brand has garnered a fan following that includes generations of women who swear by the label's commitment to the handloom industry. And to celebrate the iconic brand, Nandita Raja, co-founder and managing director of Kanishka's, wanted to recognise the brand's loyal customers. “This was not imagined to be a fashion show, but more a celebration of the people because of who, a brand, entirely based on the handloom industry and hand processes, has successfully survived over the last five decades and continues to grow,” she tells Vogue.

Women from all walks of society, from film stars and theatre personalities to lawyers and doctors took the ramp in their favourite saris from the brand. “Some chose saris that were more than three decades old,” says Raja.

Speaking of Aparna Sen, who also walked the ramp with her husband Kalyan Roy, Raja said, “She looked gorgeous as ever, but to me it was more special when she went on stage right at the beginning to talk about her long-standing love and respect for Kanishka's.”
