From Jalsa to Janak: All the beautiful properties Amitabh Bachchan owns

Amitabh Bachchan’s long-standing career in cinema, spanning over more than five decades, has entertained fans across generations. From his iconic role in Sholay (1975) to his work in contemporary films like Piku (2015), his screen presence has resulted in countless blockbuster hits. This year, Bachchan has reprised his role as the host for a fresh season of popular reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Along with numerous awards and accolades, the actor has won the hearts of many who often stand outside his home, Jalsa, in hopes to get a glimpse of the larger-than-life star. Over the years, Bachchan has set up an elaborate home base in the suburb of Juhu and acquired four other properties to his real estate repertoire. A gift from the director, Ramesh Sippy, for Bachchan’s role in Satte Pe Satta, Jalsa is the home the Bachchan family currently resides in. The twin storey 10,125sqft residence boasts a large garden and multiple living areas, designed with a combination of traditional and modern elements. Large dark wooden doors at the entrance open up to a long driveway flanked by lush foliage that also helps with maintaining privacy from the outside world. Replete with vibrant artworks and ornate silver showpieces, the Bachchans’ formal living room exudes a regal vibe. The space looks out to the expansive garden where the actor is often spotted playing with his granddaughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.

One of the highlights in the actor’s home is a traditional South-Indian Tanjore painting with intricate gold details—it often serves as a backdrop for impromptu photoshoots of the family. Another living area features baroque woodwork that overlaps the pastel green walls and creates a cosy nook to hang out with loved ones. Family photographs and extravagant figurines and sculptures are peppered throughout the home, elevating the maximalist decor. It comes as no surprise that Jalsa (which means ‘celebration’) is a favourite spot for family get-togethers and dinner parties. The actor also owns a property behind Jalsa, which spreads over 8,000sqft.

Janak is Amitabh Bachchan’s sanctuary for work

With close proximity to Jalsa, another bungalow called Janak, which means ‘father’, serves as an office for the actor. Polished wooden floors, tufted leather armchairs, and framed photographs characterise Amitabh Bachchan’s workstation. The building also houses a well-equipped gym, which features large windows and detailed panelling on the walls—you can often spot the actor working out with his grandson, Agastya Nanda, here.

Prateeksha is the actor’s first real estate purchase in Juhu

Also located in Juhu, Prateeksha is the home the actor shared with his parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. The bungalow is also where his son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan tied the knot in a grand ceremony back in 2007. The building is reportedly also home to the family’s temple, which was built by the actor’s father, and presumably holds a significant sentimental value. Vatsa, which means ‘calf’, concludes Bachchan's list of properties in Juhu and has currently been leased out to Citibank India.

Apart from his lavish properties in Mumbai, the actor reportedly owns another home in Paris, a gift from his wife, Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also followed the footsteps of the actor and invested in overseas real estate: an opulent villa in Jumeirah’s Golf Estates area in Dubai.
