Get on board the Talman train with this killer TM302. The classic dual single-coil pickup configuration is paired up with a modern-feeling flatter fretboard.

Ibanez has reached back in time to resurrect one of its most requested model guitars of the past two decades. And while true to the original of the early 90's, today's Talman brings with it a familiar, yet fresh sound that places it squarely at the crossroads of modern Ibanez innovation and cherished traditional tone.

The TM302 begins with a high gloss finished, traditionally styled Talman Alder body for a strong, full sound with beefy lows and stinging high-end. The Maple "Talman Classic-Plus" 22-fret neck is a traditional "C" shape for that comfortable, familiar feel reminiscent of guitars from the 50's and 60's, but its smooth, easily playable Rosewood fretboard is where modern innovation takes over. A distinct Ibanez asset is its flatter fretboard radius--a feature more conducive to the techniques of modern guitarists, as well as being a friendlier surface for slide players. Yet another advantage comes from its smooth, contoured Fast Access neck joint, which provides unfettered access to even the highest frets. Hardware includes an IFX10 fixed bridge equipped with six individual string saddles for superior intonation, and locking machine heads that guarantee solid tuning stability.

The TM302 includes two Custom Vintage single-coil pickups, specifically chosen for their uncanny classic tone, aggressive bite, great sustain, and distinctive "twang" of a traditional double single-coil guitar. Run through a 3-way selector switch, these warm, single-coils are excellent for country, read more pop, blues or classic rock. Players who derive their distortion from an amp will appreciate the versatility and responsiveness these moderate-output pickups offer--back off on the volume and you'll find your sound transforming from a snarling bite to a clean, singing tone with softer attack.

No matter what style you're playing, the TM302 will deliver the tones you know and love in an instrument that reflects the evolution of the modern player.

Ibanez knows how to make great guitars. The Talman is their next great model. Cool retro offset body with great mix of traditional and modern features. The guitar takes its cues from T style guitars. The pickups are single coil and sound great: the neck is warm and the bridge is spanky. Both sound awesome overdriven. Better still, both are silent. I haven't looked under the hood yet, but I suspect that there's a dummy coil to eliminate 60 cycle hum. The neck is wonderful--incredibly well finished. Ibanez actually "binds" the rosewood fingerboard with additional rosewood to hide the fret tangs. This makes the neck very comfortable to play. The neck profile is fatter than Big F's C profile, which I love, but it's not baseball, 50's LP fat. I do prefer a fatter neck. The satin finish on the neck adds to the playability. The stain is a sandy brown color, which is much closer to the color of vintage necks than the bright yellow that some manufacturers use. My guitar is 3-tone sunburst--very well done. There are no defects in the finish and while 3TSB isn't my fave finish, for the price, I won't complain. The body includes a tummy cut and contoured heel joint--more comfort and playing ease. If you're looking for a great-value T style guitar with a unique body shape, definitely consider a Talman.
