Source : misstibet.com, 08-06-2011 MCLEOD GANJ, India, A seventeen-year-old lass from Zurich, Tenzin Yangkyi, was crowned Miss Tibet 2011 in a modest late-night finale show in McLeod Ganj. She received a cash prize of rupees 100,000.00 (2,200 USD approx) with the title.
In the final interview round, when a judge asked her how she will contribute to the cause of Tibet if she wins the title of Miss Tibet, she said: "Tibetan women are educated, beautiful, but they need role models, who need to ensure their effective participation towards Tibet's cause. Miss Tibet can be the role model to spread mass awareness."
Yangkyi also won the Miss Photogenic title. She was one of six contestants in the pageant. Ngodup Dolma from Melbourn, Australia, was adjudged the First runner-up. She received a cash prize of 50,000, while Dolma Tsering from Bangalore, was sashed Second runner-up with a cash prize of 25,000 rupees. An audience of several thousand cheered for the contestants as they took part in the four rounds of Introduction, Gown, Traditional Costume, and Interview. The show was started with the lighting of the Free Spirit lights, followed by a speech from the Director Lobsang Wangyal. Compere Dr Tenzin Namdul then invited the six contestants for introduction round. All the six appeared in Miss Tibet 10th anniversary T-shirts and jeans for the round. Gown and Traditional costume rounds followed, stunning the audience with how the six presented themselves. Hair and make-up for the contestants was done by Younten Tsomo and two of her assistants, who all travelled from Delhi for the event. Kelsang Dolma, who came from Pondicherry, presented two belly dance presentations to entertain the audience. Shakuntalam Creative Centre from Dharamshala and seven-year-old child artiste Yang Dolma presented an item each. Two former Miss Tibets, Miss Tenzin Dolma (2007) and Miss Tenzin Norzom (2010), walked the ramp and shared a few words to the audience. The Free Spirit Award 2011 was also announced on the occasion. It was presented to Russel Norman, a member of Parliament in New Zealand, for his call for freedom and democracy in Tibet when the Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping was visiting the country last year. After the final interview round, the six presented a group dance choreographed by Namkhang Lhamo and Tenzin Yangdon. The coronation took place with the Director Lobsang Wangyal taking the stage. He first announced the Miss Photogenic, which was conducted through online voting. Then he announced the Second runner-up, the First runner-up, and finally the winner. Tenzin Dolma sashed the new winner, and out-going Miss Tibet Tenzin Norzom passed on the crown to the new Miss Tibet. Miss Tibet in the Media
