Set in the American Midwest in the 1950s–'60s, Happy Days starred Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham, a strait-laced Wisconsin teen who hung out with his friends at Arnold's diner. His All-American image was countered by his best friend, Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler), a motorcycle-riding smooth-talker.

The nine-time Emmy-nominated series had a revolving door of guest stars on the show, but its core cast largely remained the same over its run. Howard left after the seventh season to pursue his filmmaking career, but Winkler and company kept the show going … eventually (and quite literally) jumping the shark.

Soaked in nostalgia, Happy Days was the launching pad for its young cast and spun off into several other successful series (including Laverne & ShirleyMork & Mindy and Joanie Loves Chachi).

Here's where the stars of Happy Days are today.

Howard already had quite the résumé before joining the Happy Days cast as lead Richie Cunningham: He'd been on The Andy Griffith Show and The Smith Family, to name a few credits. He starred on the first seven seasons of Happy Days, and returned as a guest star for a few episodes in the final season.

Following Happy Days he jumped deep into directing and producing major hits like Apollo 13 (1995), The Da Vinci Code (2006), Frost/Nixon (2008) and Hillbilly Elegy (2020) and won a Best Director Oscar for A Beautiful Mind (2001).

Howard married writer Cheryl Alley in 1975, and together they have four children, including actor-director Bryce Dallas Howard.

Since breaking hearts as Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on Happy Days, Winkler hasn't slowed down. "The Fonz" was initially a secondary character, but he became so popular that he became the focus of the series in later seasons. Winkler received two Golden Globe awards for playing Fonzie.

After Happy Days, Winkler jumped into the TV series Monty and a slew of films (including several with friend Adam Sandler) before appearing as a featured player on shows like Arrested Development (which re-teamed him with Howard) and Parks and Recreation, all while dipping his toes into directing and producing, too. He has continued to star on television in shows like Children's Hospital, Royal Pains and Barry, earning his first Primetime Emmy for the latter (for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series in 2018) among nine career nominations. Winkler also received a Daytime Emmy Award for the 1985 television special CBS Schoolbreak Special: "All the Kids Do It," as well as one in 2005 for outstanding performer in an animated program for his voice work on Clifford's Puppy Days.

Winkler has been married to wife Stacey Weitzman since 1978 and has two adult children (son Max is an actor) and a stepson with her.

Beloved Happy Days matriarch Marion Ross, who played Marion Cunningham, joined The Love Boat like several other members of the Happy Days cast did after their hit series ended.

Though she earned a steady string of credits through the '80s and '90s, including The Drew Carey Show and Gilmore Girls, she later focused on her work as a voice actress on animated hits like SpongeBob SquarePants and Handy Manny. She has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards over the course of her career and was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the 1996 film The Evening Star. In 2018, Ross said she retired from acting. However, she has continued to appear in various projects, including the 2021 film Senior Entourage.

She and husband of 18 years Freeman Meskimen divorced in 1969; together they have two children, who both have ties to Hollywood.

Scot Baio rose to fame as Erin Moran's Happy Days love interest, Chachi Arcola, joining the series in the fifth season. He later starred with Moran on the spin-off, Joanie Loves Chachi.

His success playing Chachi led him to the lead part on Charles in Charge, and later, series like Baby Talk, Diagnosis Murder and See Dad Run.

Baio was the subject of the 2007 reality series Scott Baio Is 45 ... and Single before marrying Renée Sloan later that year. Together, the couple has a daughter, Bailey.

Like Howard, Don Most's Ralph Malph left Happy Days after the seventh season and returned as a guest in the final season. Following his time on Happy Days, Most also joined The Love Boat for a few episodes in the late '70s and early '80s, and reunited with Baio for an episode of Charles in Charge and Howard in ED TV. He had guest-starring roles on Glee, The Odd Couple and The Bold and the Beautiful. Most has also been active in music and has been touring with his swing band.

Off-camera, Most has been married to actress Morgan Hart since 1982; the couple has two daughters.

Anson Williams, who played Potsie Weber on all 11 seasons of Happy Days, has had few acting roles after the series ended in 1984. Williams opted to direct instead, stepping behind the camera on Melrose Place, Beverly Hills, 90210, Baywatch, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, Lizzie McGuire and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. He also had a brief foray into politics, running unsuccessfully for mayor of Ojai, Calif. in 2022.

Williams' first wife, Lorrie Mahaffey, was a Happy Days costar; together they have one child. He married Jackie Gerken, with whom he has four children, in 1988, but filed for divorce in 2019.

Erin Moran as Joanie Cunningham

HAPPY DAYS

Erin Moran was best known for her work as Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days and later, the spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi. The actress had a handful of acting credits beyond Happy Days but spent her later years taking care of her mother-in-law in a trailer park in Corydon, Ind., where she lived with her second husband after struggling with fame and finances.

Moran passed away at age 56 on April 22, 2017, of complications stemming from stage 4 cancer.

"Erin was a person who made everyone around her feel better," costar Anson Williams said in a statement. "She truly cared about others first, a true angel."

Tom Bosley as Howard Cunningham

HAPPY DAYS

Tom Bosley played patriarch Howard Cunningham and appeared in every episode of the series. After jumping from Happy Days to The Love Boat, Bosley moved on to Murder, She Wrote and Father Dowling Mysteries. Bosley also found success in voice-over work for animation, voicing the titular character on The World of David the Gnome and Jupiter on Jason and the Heroes of Mount Olympus.

Though he's known for his screen work, Bosley's first love was theater: He won a Tony in 1960 for his work in Fiorello! on Broadway and originated the role of Maurice in Disney's Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast in 1994.

Bosley passed away in 2010 from complications brought on by a staph infection while he was also battling lung cancer. The actor was survived by his second wife, actress Patricia Carr, and daughter Amy Bosley Baer.

Al Molinaro as Al Delvecchio

HAPPY DAYS

As beloved diner owner Al Delvecchio, Al Molinaro also played his character's twin brother, the priest Father Anthony Delvecchio. He got into acting later in life, following careers in collections and real estate, and got the Happy Days gig (joining the cast in the fourth season) through improv classmate Penny Marshall, who reportedly introduced him to her brother, series creator Garry. He left the series after season nine to star in the spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi, but returned as a guest star in the final two seasons of Happy Days.

Molinaro only had one major role post-Happy Days — on the one-season series The Family Man — though he continued appearing in commercials for the rest of his life.

He died in 2015, survived by his second wife Betty Farrell and one son from his first marriage.
