Hi guys! I need help wiring my speedometer. I have the wiring schematics but they are a bit confusing to me on the bottom bulbs and tab. Can anyone match the letter to the number on this Wiring Diagram for me?
ie. "D goes to 1" etc.
Thanks! |

A = 1 or 2 (whichever goes to the oil pressure sender).
B = 1 or 2 (whichever goes to terminal 61 of the voltage regulator).
Do a continuity test to figure out which.
C = 3 (it should have power when the ignition is on).
D = 4 (it goes to terminal 61 of the voltage regulator). _________________ Jason Hamilton

Thanks Jason! I did have a couple of question for you in regards to your response and also on which wiring diagrams I should be using. I have an early vin 66' with a 1600dp and am converting it to 12V.

You mentioned the voltage regulator twice. Did you mean the flasher relay instead of voltage regulator on letter B?
If so RED is for Oil pressure, Green 1 goes to #61 of the voltage regulator, and Green 2 goes to the flasher on the following diagram.
My other question is:
Should I be using this wiring diagram from the samba technical/wiring tab: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/ghia_66_USA.jpg
Or should I use the one found on your site under the technical/electrical/1966 -1969 Karmann Ghia Wiring Diagram. http://www.type-14.com/
There seem to be some minor yet significant differences(if that can even be possible). For example the brown wire from the turn signal lever on one diagram seems to just ground out, but on the other it connects to the #31 terminal on the wiper switch. I'm confused as to which route I should take. Any suggestions?
My last concern is in regards to this photo:
Is the speedometer supposed to light up as much as the clock? Or does this look correct to you?
Again thanks for the help! |
